Home Coming Burgers by Carl

I frequently talk food with people. When they share with me something tasty they’ve made, I say let’s do a post. Well I told my friend Carl and he was down for sharing a recipe. So here we go with my first guest recipe!

image(6)I am honored to say this is my friend Carl. After years of being a Marine, a hero, a soldier, he is home. Kicking butt, doing it all, hanging out with three (amazing) girls, being a Modern Renaissance man, and cooking delicious dinners for us all.

image(8)He was deployed twice to Afghanistan on back to back tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he was deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and to Africa. Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal, combat action ribbon, two good conduct medals. After so many years of fighting for our freedom, it is good to have him home.

Saturday him and Chelsey came to see me at the market, as well as Carl making friends with everyone (that’s what he does, I’ve never met someone so inhibited, who will talk and compliment anyone). After scoring some fresh lettuce from St. Mary’s White Violet Center, he made us a yummy dinner of fresh salad and stuffed hamburgers. Here it is!

Homecoming Stuffed Burgers by Carl

  • 2 lbs ground hamburger
  • Pepper Jack Cheese (personal not Swiss Connection has raw Habanero cheese which I think would be perfect too)
  • Finely chopped red onion
  • 1/2 pack Ranch
  • Minced garlic
  • Sea Salt
  • Fresh Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber

Let’s Make it Happen: Begin with a little prep work. Chop the red onion and cheese. Put in a bowl with the hamburger, Ranch, and garlic. Grate salt onto the mix.

Cook burgers. Flip to the other side. (Check out that sexy wrist)

Check the largest burger by cutting into the side a little bit to make sure it is no longer pink in the middle. Remove from the grill.

Start preparing the salad. Cut the lettuce up. Slice a cucumber. Dice a tomato. Assemble into a large bowl.

That’s it! Gather around the table and enjoy the food. Thank you so much to Carl not just for dinner and this post, but for all you’ve done/do and will continue to do. You’re the best!
